$20.00
The birth center Infant Massage

Infant Massage

Early psychological and sensory input is essential in facilitating the development of all infants. Infant massage is a beautiful and loving way to provide that input and foster positive interaction. This class will provide caregivers with a set of proven techniques and methods for systematically massaging infants. Techniques will include movements such as rubbing, kneading, pressing, and rolling for therapeutic purposes. Therapeutic benefits include improved circulation, relaxation of muscles, relief of pain, restoration of metabolic balance, and most importantly, spending quality one-on-one time with baby.

Class Recommendations

We have had a wonderful start to this new program at the birth center.  It is such a blessing to spend time with mamas and their little ones.  Here are some of the sweet things they had to say when we asked them how they could see infant massage affecting their relationship with their babies…

“More cuddle time ☺

“My baby seems more engaged! Especially showing eye contact during massages”

“It’s nice to have some hands-on techniques to use to help with relaxation.”

“It was a positive experience and I feel more confident touching and playing with my baby.”

“Calmer, a fun way to interact, increases his awareness”

“It helped to relax me around him and helped us to really bond at night and get into an excellent routine.”

“It allowed me to connect with her and to help to calm her as needed.”

As an instructor, I couldn’t be more pleased with these answers! The objective of this series is to add some new tools to that mama toolbox that will help you feel more confident as a parent and bond with your little one. I truly look forward to teaching as many caretakers as I can in the upcoming series.

About Sarah

After fourteen years as a practicing pediatric physical therapist, Sarah feels beyond blessed to have the opportunity to be a part of The Birth Center community. She truly believes that supporting birthing mothers, their beautiful babies, and their precious families is a gift.

She received her Bachelor of Science from Towson University, then continued on to complete her Masters and Doctorate of Physical Therapy, at the University of Maryland, School of Medicine. Following graduation in 2003, she has practiced as a licensed pediatric physical therapist in the Cecil County Public School System’s Infant and Toddler Program, Child Find Program and Special Education program.  She is certified by the International Loving Touch Foundation, Inc. as a Certified Infant Massage Instructor (CIMI) and teaches “Mommy and Me” style infant massage class at The Birth Center.  Sarah is an essential oils educator and distributor with Young Living Essential Oils and will be incorporating some essential oils education into her classes. Sarah also completed her doula training at The Birth Center through DONA.

Sarah recently had the opportunity to participate in a mission trip to Haiti, where the birth of a child can be very dangerous due to the conditions they live in and the lack of medical care that they have available to them.  Sarah says, “It is something that will fuel me for years to come. We are so very blessed to have amazing places like The Birth Center to support us as we begin the beautiful adventure we call parenthood.  What greater gift could I be given, then to have the privilege of walking alongside families and support them on this amazing journey?”
