Childbirth Full Series: Healthy Birth – May 4th, 2023
May 4 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
$185.00Taught by our registered nurses and doulas certified in childbirth education, this hybrid course has a (pre-recorded) online component as well as two live, and one virtual two-hour classes that meet on Zoom. The dates shown below reflect the date of the first live class in each series.
This series covers everything you need to know about giving birth! It is a great place to not only learn about labor and birth but also to meet friends who will be having their baby in the same month! We suggest that you take this class between 28-34 weeks.
Prelude and the First Stage of Labor (Pre-Recorded)
Learn about the mechanics of labor and the movements a baby makes as he/she moves into the pelvis and prepares to be born. We will also review the first stage of labor and what mom will be feeling during each phase. Relaxation and breathing will be practiced to help the mom-to-be cope with the discomforts of labor.
Second Stage of Labor and Delivery (Pre-Recorded)
You will learn about the mechanics of labor and birth and the movements a baby makes as he/she moves into the pelvis and prepares to be born through the pushing phase and delivery. We will also review the second stage of labor and what mom will be feeling. The delivery of the baby will also be covered in this class!
Postpartum (Pre-Recorded)
What happens after labor and delivery? This class will review the minor and major changes that come along with having a new baby. Caring for yourself during the postpartum period, coping with crying, and organizing your time are all reviewed.
Labor Review and Rehearsal (In person Week 1)
During class, mom and her partner will learn focus, breathing, positioning, and positive thinking to prepare to birth naturally. We will have a labor rehearsal to practice what you need to do when you go into labor, breathing techniques, different positions, and ways to cope with labor. Get into each of the rooms, sit on the stool, get in the tub, and try out the birthing ball.
Postpartum, What Happens if You Are Transferred, and a Birth Story (In person Week 2)
Review what the postpartum period may be like and how to be prepared. Also, learn about the interventions that couples may encounter giving birth in a hospital. This piece will help you to be prepared for the unlikely event of a hospital transfer from The Birth Center. To conclude the series a Birth Center family will join us to share their birth story.
Caring for Your Newborn (Zoom Week 3)
Learn the skills you need to be confident in caring for your newborn; skills such as swaddling, diapering, bathing, dressing, nail care, comforting a crying baby, safety, and much more!
This series will run as follows:
- May 4th: Labor Review and Labor Rehearsal (in person)
- May 11th: What Happens if You Are Transferred, Postpartum, and a Birth Story (in person)
- May 18th: Caring for Your Newborn (Virtual)
