You will also be able to socialize with other birth center families and create a network of friends. The Ideal time to take this class is between weeks 28-34.
You Will Have Homework Preparation!
Three Pre-Recorded videos to watch before attending the first in-person class: These will be sent to your email before the first class.
Prelude and the First Stage of Labor (Pre-Recorded)
Learn about the mechanics of labor and a baby’s movements as he/she moves into the pelvis and prepares to be born. We will also review the first stage of labor and the mom’s feelings during each phase. Relaxation and breathing will be practiced to help the mom-to-be cope with the discomforts of labor.
Second Stage of Labor and Delivery (Pre-Recorded)
You will learn about the mechanics of labor and birth and the movements a baby makes as he/she moves into the pelvis and prepares to be born through the pushing phase and delivery. We will also review the second stage of labor and what the mom will feel. The delivery of the baby will also be covered in this class!
What happens after labor and delivery? This class will review the minor and significant changes that come with a new baby. Caring for yourself postpartum, coping with crying, and organizing your time are all reviewed.
Now for the Live Classes:
Week 1 Class 1: Labor Review and Rehearsal- In the Classroom at The Birth Center.
During class, the mom and her partner will learn focus, breathing, positioning, and positive thinking to prepare to give birth naturally. We will have a labor rehearsal to practice what you must do when you go into labor, breathing techniques, different positions, and ways to cope with labor. This is a hands-on portion where you will move, and Activewear is encouraged. Please bring your Labor Go bag to review what you have packed.
Week 2 Class 2: Postpartum, What Happens if You Are Transferred, and a Birth Story- In the Classroom at The Birth Center.
Review what the postpartum period may be like and how to be prepared. Also, learn about the interventions couples may encounter when giving birth in a hospital. This piece will help you to be ready for the unlikely event of a hospital transfer from The Birth Center. To conclude the series, a Birth Center family will join us to share their birth story.
