October is the perfect time to slow down, enjoy the cooler weather, and make some memories as a family. Fall is my favorite time of year because it feels like time slows down and you can cherish every moment. This fall, you do not need to plan everything out, but do the simple activities that become the ones kids remember most! Here are a few fun activities I will be doing with my family.

Decorate Pumpkins

My niece and nephew love this activity, especially because we sit outside drinking warm apple cider while painting the pumpkins. You can do this by going to a local farm and picking out pumpkins together. Then get creative by painting them, putting stickers, drawing silly faces, or carving them. For little ones, painting is an easy option.

Go on a Fall Nature Hunt

Head outside and see how many fall treasures you can find. Look for colorful leaves, acorns, pinecones, sticks, pumpkins, or even different types of birds. Turn it into a simple scavenger hunt! When I do this activity, I especially love collecting pinecones as we walk to create more fall activities.

Make a Fall Treat Together

Get everyone involved in the kitchen with an easy seasonal snack. I love doing this because it keeps the kids occupied while they learn to cook. Our favorite thing to make is trail mix and pumpkin roll. The kids love helping by taste-testing the trail mix ingredients. You can also make apple slices with toppings, pumpkin-flavored treats, or another family favorite.

Have a Halloween Movie Night

Movie night with your family is an all-time favorite, and there are different ways to make it fun. Put on pajamas, grab some blankets, make popcorn, and choose a kid-friendly Halloween movie. You can do this outside to watch a movie under the stars, or stay warm and cozy in a fort at home.

Create Fall Crafts

Gather leaves and pinecones on your next walk and turn them into a cozy afternoon of crafting. You can create leaf prints on canvas, pinecone bird feeders, pipe-cleaner pumpkins, or classic footprint ghosts. These hands-on projects are just as much fun for adults as they are for kids, bringing back the simple magic of our own childhoods.Between school, work, and everyday routines, the fall season can quickly become overwhelming. But quality family time doesn’t have to be complicated. Pick an activity everyone enjoys, put the screens away, and simply enjoy each other’s company. I’ve set a personal goal this season to complete at least five fall activities with my family to make lasting memories—and maybe even start a few traditions. Even if crafting isn’t your style, I encourage you to carve out a little intentional time to celebrate the season together.
