Frequency
You should schedule your first visit about 8-10 weeks after your last menstrual period. After the initial visit, the CNMs will see you every four weeks until you are 28 weeks pregnant, every 2 weeks until you are 36 weeks pregnant, and every week thereafter until delivery. If the need arises, visits will be more frequent. The first visit is one hour long and subsequent visits are 30 minutes.
The Visit
Since the CNMs rotate the on-call schedule, we recommend that you acquaint yourself with each of them. The person scheduling your appointments will help you do this. We currently have five midwives that catch babies- Katie Mansur, Sarah Grace Webster, Ariela Borkan, Dawn Moore, and Julia Paulus.
At each visit, we will check your weight and blood pressure. You will also be able to listen to your baby’s heartbeat at each visit. We will discuss and review specific items that apply to your stage of pregnancy. There will also be time to discuss any questions or concerns you might have for the midwife.
Family Involvement
Family and friends are welcome to attend prenatal visits. We especially encourage the primary support person and siblings, particularly those siblings who plan to attend the birth, to become involved in your prenatal care.
The Birth Center provides pregnancy, labor, birth, postpartum, and GYN services to women from adolescence through menopause. We provide full-scope care for women of all ages from teens to post-menopausal. Our focus is to empower our clients through holistic health management and education.
