Thank you, Birth Center Mamas Malinda (Photo Credit: Erin Farrell Photography) and Jessica, for the photos used on this blog!
Your celebration meal is the meal that you have after you have your baby but before you go home. Mamas often plan for this meal to be one of their favorite foods, something they have not had in awhile because it’s not recommended during pregnancy or a food that is quick and easy to prepare and eat.
Basically, a celebration meal can be anything you want it to be! It is a good idea for it to be something easy to prepare if it is just your partner and you at your birth. You will want some family time with that sweet little newborn so the less for your partner to do the better! On the other hand, if you have family there that need to be occupied, something more involved might be good!
Just make sure there is a plan! There aren’t great options for takeout if it is 3 am!
Here are some meals mamas have brought as their celebration meals:
- Pizza
- Hoagies
- Steak sandwiches
- Quiche
- Uncrustables – Just in case!
- Smoothies
- Pasta: Alfredo, lasagna, baked ziti, chicken parmesan
- A smorgasbord of stuff: Prosciutto, cheese, pickles, hummus, bread, cucumbers, carrots, and grapes
- Beef Stew
- Breakfast: Waffles, pancakes, bacon, sausage, and/or eggs
- French toast casserole
- Chicken caesar salad
- Macaroni and Cheese
- Sushi
- Chicken enchiladas
- Bagel sandwich
- Pot Pie
- Cheeseburger
It can also be helpful to pack a snack for immediately after! It is recommended to get something in your stomach prior to taking ibuprofen. Once you have had something to eat, we can give you ibuprofen. These are some snacks that mamas have brought:
- Bar
- Banana
- Peanut butter
- Donut
- Popsicle
- Muffin
- Watermelon
