Childbirth Full Series Part 2: Healthy Birth
This 8 hour series covers everything you need to know about giving birth! Class is taught by our Registered Nurses. It is a great place to not only learn about labor and birth, but also meet friends who will be having their baby in the same month! We suggest that you take this class between 28-34 weeks.
The series includes:
You will learn about mechanics of labor and birth, the movements a baby makes as he/she moves into the pelvis and prepares to be born. Review the stages of labor and what mom will be feeling during each stage. Relaxation, positioning, breathing will be practiced to help one cope with the discomforts of labor. During class, mom and her partner will learn focus, breathing, positioning and positive thinking to prepare to birth naturally.
For labor rehearsal, have your bags packed and get ready for the dress rehearsal! Mom and her partner will start having “contractions” at home, come to The Birth Center and begin the labor process. This is your opportunity to get into the rooms, sit on the stool, get in the tub and try out the birthing ball. We will guide you through “contractions” and help you use all the coping tools you have learned in class.
The hospital class reviews the interventions that couple may encounter when giving birth in a hospital. Learn about everything from epidurals to cesarean birth. Be prepared for the unlikely event of a hospital transfer from The Birth Center.
What happens after labor and delivery? Class will also review the minor and major changes that come along with having a new baby. Caring for yourselves during the postpartum period, coping with crying and organizing your time are reviewed. The series will conclude with a birth story from a Birth Center family!
The Full Childbirth Series and Hypnobirthing classes do overlap quite a bit. Patients are welcome to take both classes, but should be aware information may be repeated.
